Washington DC: Sprinkles Cupcakes

Washington-DC-Sprinkles-CupcakesA few months back one of my best friends moved from NYC to DC to go to law school and she had always left an open invite for me to come visit. It’s been a hectic past few months between the blog and work and I never had the chance to get down there. Finally, I decided to put everything aside for a short time and hop on a bus. It was a long and grueling 4 hour bus ride but I am very glad that I made the time to visit. The weather was a bit chilly at night but overall I can’t complain!

I hadn’t been to DC since I was little so it was almost as if I was visiting again for the first time. We spent daytime hours museum hopping and wandering around the beautiful city. My favorite stop was the botanical garden. Every flower was bursting with color and brightening up the faces of those around. Living in New York is amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for the world but sometimes you feel like you are always in a rush and never have a chance to “stop and smell the roses” but taking the time away from home and work and being down in that botanical garden in DC really gave me that chance to take in the beauty that surrounds us.

Every area of DC seems to be unique in its own way. I would love to claim I have a solid grasp on exactly what sets each neighborhood apart but I think that would be multiple visits away. One of my favorite areas we visited was Georgetown. We walked up and down “M” street popping in and out of every cute shop. I wanted to try DC cupcakes but the line was around the block, luckily there was a Sprinkles not too far away. We arrived at Sprinkles around 4pm and I must say, if you want to be able to pick from a wide selection of flavors, get there early in the day. Like DC cupcakes, Sprinkles is pretty popular and they sell out quick! I picked up a box of four which included the store’s most popular flavors (Red Velvet and Black & White) and two personal choices (Banana and Dark Chocolate). Of all four, I have to say my favorite was banana. It might be a little biased because I am a sucker for banana everything and anything. The cake was perfectly moist and the frosting just sweet enough.

All in all it was a great trip filled with friends, laughter, and sweet treats! We also ate at a cute pub nearby called J. Paul’s. Look out for that post as it will be coming up soon!
